Your first visit

What happens, in order

A first visit is about an hour. This is how it goes, whichever site you choose.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Before you come

We call to set a time at the site closest to you, and the front desk checks your benefits. If your doctor's office sent a referral, we already have it.

  2. 02

    Step 2: When you arrive

Check in at the front desk. Forms are on our patient portal before you come, or on paper at the desk.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The evaluation

Your therapist asks what you want to do again, looks at how you move and explains what they find, including the risks and the choices.

  4. 04

Step 4: Your plan of care

Together you agree on what to work on, how often to come and what to do at home. You leave with your exercises written down.

  5. 05

    Step 5: After the visit

With your permission, we send a note to the doctor's office that referred you.

What to wear and bring

  • Wear

Clothes you can move in, with the area we will treat easy to reach: shorts for a knee, a short-sleeved top for a shoulder.

  • Bring

Your plan card, a photo ID, a list of your medicines and any paperwork your doctor's office gave you.

  • Ask for what you need

Bring a family member if you like. Tell us if you need an interpreter, a chair or more time.

What is not decided on day one

Your first visit is an evaluation and a plan, not a promise. We do not decide on day one how many visits you will need. That depends on how you respond, and your therapist adjusts the plan as you go.

  • What caused it may not be known yet

  • Whether you need imaging or another check is your therapist's call, and we tell your doctor's office

  • You can change your mind or ask questions at any point

Tell your therapist what is bothering you in your own words when you come in. The form does not ask for it.
